Professional Experience: Christina S. Beck (Ph.D., University of Oklahoma, 1992) is professor in the School of Communication Studies at Ohio University. Beck is current editor of Communication Yearbook and the book review editor of Journal of Health Communication: International Perspectives. She is the author of two award-winning books on health communication as well as co-editor of Narratives, Health and Healing, recently released by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates. She has also co-edited a book on the Hill- Thomas hearing and published numerous journal articles and invited book chapters. Her research interests span the areas of health communication, language and social interaction, and mass communication. Beck currently serves on the editorial boards of Health Communication, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Research of Language and Social Interaction, and Communication Studies.
Research Interests: Dr. Beck specializes in health communication with related interests in media studies and language and social interaction. She is currently exploring public dialogues about health concerns by examining discourse surrounding celebrity health narratives.
Teaching Specialization: Health Communication and Qualitative Methods (particularly courses on ethnography of communication, conversation analysis, and qualitative interviewing).
