Professional Experience: Director of Graduate Studies (1993-96); visiting assistant professor, Michigan State University (1984-85); director of undergraduate studies, School of Interpersonal Communication (1990-93); director of Honors Tutorial Program (1981-84); founding member of The Center for Political Communication; teaching and research assistant, University of Illinois (1974-79).
Publications: Articles published in Quarterly Journal of Speech; Southern Communication Journal; Journal of Communication Inquiry; Ohio Speech Journal; Massachusetts Journal of Communication; Quarterly Journal of Ideology; Western Journal of Communication; author of book chapters in The Underside of Hightech; Reagan and Public Discourse in America; Interpretive Approaches to Interpersonal Communication; American Heroes in a Media Age; review essay in Phenomenology and Social Life; numerous papers presented to speech conventions and conferences.
Honors: University Professor (excellence in teaching award, (1999-2000, 1986-87) Outstanding Honors Tutor, (1996); four time nominee as Outstanding Graduate Faculty; awarded two internal research grants; one national research grant; and two Provost's Summer Grants; Provost's Teaching Recognition award (1994).
Research Interests: Rhetoric of cultural practices/performances, political communication, rhetorical theory.
