Education: Ph.D., University of Washington (2000); M.A., University of Maine (1996); B.A., Eastern Washington University (1994).

Professional Experience: Assistant Professor,
Ohio University (2000-present); Interim Director, Honors Tutorial Program (2005-2006).

 

Research and Teaching: Dr. St. John’s research interests involve public argument, communication theory, political communication, and public sphere studies. He teaches undergraduate courses in public advocacy, free speech, communication theory, political rhetoric, and argumentation, and graduate courses in public deliberation and communication theory. He is the co-editor of Communication As . . . Perspectives on Theory (Sage, 2006). His current work includes a forthcoming essay on political criticism in the Quarterly Journal of Speech, and a pair of essays on the rhetorical uses of public memory in organizational and deliberative contexts.
