Scholarly Interests: My scholarly agenda focuses on discourses of health and healing and organizing processes, feminist and narrative theory and practice. My research has encompassed a range of issues including disability-related concerns, pediatric cancer care, early childhood mental health, organizing of health care resources for underserved populations, poverty and homelessness, and the aesthetic and spiritual dimensions of familial and communal life. The various strands of my program of research are connected by three primary concerns: (1) how symbolic, material, and corporeal conditions allow for resiliency among individuals facing difficult life circumstances; (2) how alternative discourse communities, boundary-spanning organizations, and individuals in bureaucratic contexts organize for survival and social change; and, (3) how people experience lived differences, contradictions, ironies, and paradoxes.
